Does the Forerunner 165 have maps?
No, the Forerunner 165 is a sports watch with no built-in topographic maps, unlike pricier models such as the fēnix or epix. What trail navigation looks like on the Forerunner 165
On launch the app searches for a GPS signal, usually a dozen or so seconds in open terrain. Once it gets a fix, it loads the trails for your area and draws the map. Neighboring areas load automatically as you hike, so there is nothing to download manually.
The watch is operated with five physical buttons, no touchscreen:
